Residents of the Dyersdale Village Apartments in Northeast Houston, a Section 8 federally subsidized complex on Mesa Road, are calling for urgent repairs after reporting persistent mold, raw sewage smells, and severe rodent and roach infestations, according to coverage by FOX 26 Houston and Houston Stringer.

Civil and human-rights activist Dr. Candice Matthews held a press conference at the property in February after residents contacted her. Tenants, including HUD-assisted families, told her the conditions had persisted for years despite repeated complaints. Property management told Matthews it is working with a pest control company on the infestation.

HUD complaint records cited in the reporting show that earlier mold-related concerns at the property in March 2024 and a roof-leak complaint in March 2025 were logged as resolved by inspectors. Residents at the press conference disputed that characterization, saying problems quickly return.
