Students at Arizona State University's Manzanita Hall and Hassayampa Academic Village are reporting chronic health problems they attribute to mold exposure in their residence halls. Reported symptoms include brain fog, persistent fatigue, chronic coughing, recurring strep throat, sinus inflammation, and mental health effects — concerns that went largely unaddressed until parents intervened.

One student who tested her room for mold at the start of the academic year described being sick the entire year with constant coughing and stuffiness. Another student received a room transfer to Barrett Residential Complex only after her parents contacted the university directly. Notably, her symptoms resolved completely after the move. ASU Housing has stated they manage air quality through visible growth inspections, humidity checks, and ventilation screenings.
